May 8, 1863---Along the Texas Trail

MAY 8, 1863:

A skirmish between Union and Confederate (Cherokee) forces occurs along the Texas Trail at Cabin Creek, in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). The Texas Trail was the conduit for Union military supplies moving south from Kansas to the forts in Indian Territory during the war. As might be surmised, the Texas Trail ran south to Texas, and the ford at Cabin Creek was the site of several Civil War engagements.
