May 21, 1863---The Battle of The Plains Store

MAY 21, 1863:   

The Battle of The Plains Store (East Baton Rouge, Louisiana) marked the first stage in the Siege of Port Hudson. With the investment of Vicksburg by the Union, Port Hudson was the last open route to the trans-Mississippi States of the Confederacy. Thus the loss of Port Hudson would be catastrophic to the South. On this same day, the Seventh Day Adventist Church was officially founded.
