May 28, 1863---The 54th Massachusetts is on the march
MAY 28, 1863:
Following
the establishment of the United States Colored Troops (U.S.C.T.) on May 22nd,
the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, the most famous African-American regiment of
the war, leaves Boston for combat in the South.
