August 1, 1863---Charleston bombarded; The Second Battle of Brandy Station



AUGUST 1, 1863:        

United States forces begin shelling Charleston harbor.


In a fitting end to the Gettysburg Campaign, J.E.B. Stuart’s cavalry forces and John Buford’s cavalry forces engage in a large skirmish near Brandy Station, sometimes called “The Second Battle of Brandy Station.”
