June 16, 1863---Lee marches toward Harrisburg



JUNE 16, 1863:          

 True rumors that the Army of Northern Virginia is targeting the city grip the Pennsylvanian capital of Harrisburg. The citizenry begins a mass exodus. The roads and rails are clogging with refugees heading north with their belongings. The State government begins to pack up crucial documents and to destroy others. The Military Command and the City Fathers order men out to build defensive works.
