The
Second Battle of Springfield, Missouri:
Confederates
attack Springfield, Missouri, trying to reoccupy southwestern Missouri. The
result is an urban house-to-house, often hand-to-hand battle that leaves
Springfield a ruin. The Confederates are pushed back, and retreat into
Arkansas. The Union suffers 175 casualties, the Confederacy 300.
