FEBRUARY 15, 1863:
The Roop
County War. This two-day “war” between settlers in the Nataqua Territory---an
unofficial region, part of which lay within present-day California and part within
the Nevada Territory created in 1861---ended by establishing the current-day
borders of Nevada and California. The Roop County settlers wanted to avoid
Mormon taxation by Deseret, and wished to include Honey Lake Valley in their
claim. Though some shots were fired, no record of injuries exists.
