January 20, 1863---The Mud March

JANUARY 20, 1863:            

Overnight torrential rains have turned General Burnside’s projected path along the Rappahannock River into an impassable sea of mud. Undeterred or merely oblivious, Burnside continues what becomes known as the “Mud March.”
