January 22, 1863---A drunken brawl

JANUARY 22, 1863:

General Ambrose Burnside U.S.A.---who seems utterly insensible to obstacles---decides to raise his mud-bedraggled men’s spirits by distributing liquor to the troops. Afterward, drunken and frustrated men begin arguing, and the Mud March degenerates into a chaotic donnybrook amongst the filthy, dispirited Union troops.
