Barnum is the impresario for the “Fairy Wedding” of General Tom Thumb (Charles
Sherwood Stratton) and Lavinia Warren at New York City’s Grace Church. Their
wedding is a Nineteenth Century media event. Tom Thumb stood only 25 inches
tall and weighed 16 pounds. Each earned an astounding $3,000 per week as
performers in Barnum’s Circus.
