September 23, 1861---Jayhawkers from hell
SEPTEMBER 23, 1861:

Lane’s marginally pro-Union irregulars, the “Redlegs” massacre almost 2,500
civilians in Osceola, Missouri. The once-thriving town is left with 183
inhabitants.
