October 13, 1861---An ironclad agreement
OCTOBER 13, 1861:
A new
type of river gunboat is unveiled by the Union. Dubbed “Pook’s Turtles” by
their designer, Samuel Pook, the seven ironclads are specifically designed to
operate in the silty Mississippi River.
