October 9, 1861---Not so easy "Pickens"

OCTOBER 9, 1861:    

 The Battle of Santa Rosa Island (The Battle of Fort Pickens).  Confederate amphibious forces numbering about 1,500 try to attack U.S.-held Fort Pickens, near Pensacola, Florida, and are repulsed with approximately 175 casualties.
