September 14, 1861---Billy Yank's Blues

SEPTEMBER 14, 1861:

The Union standardizes its military uniforms. Although existing units are allowed to wear their distinctive “Zouave” and kilted gear until they need replacement, the typical “Bluecoat” uniform comes into general use. Any gray Union uniforms are immediately banned.
