October 14, 1861---Confederates in Kennebunkport get got



OCTOBER 14, 1861:  

 President Lincoln sends orders to Maine, suspending the Writ of Habeas Corpus. Lincoln is concerned that Confederate agents and British sympathizers will use Maine as transit route for war goods smuggled in from Canada and bound for the Confederacy.
