September 11, 1861---Lincoln revokes an Emancipation Proclamation



SEPTEMBER 11, 1861:        

President Lincoln revokes Fremont’s unauthorized Missouri Emancipation Proclamation. Abolitionists are enraged. 

On this day as well, General Robert E. Lee attempts to dislodge a Union force on Cheat Mountain, Virginia (now West Virginia).
