October 4, 1861---SOUTH CAROLINA defeats the Confederacy
OCTOBER 4, 1861:
The
U.S.S. SOUTH CAROLINA interdicts two blockade runners, the EZILDA and the
GEORGE R. TOONE in the Gulf of Mexico and relieves the Confederacy of 12,000
rifles and ammunition.
