May 12, 1861---"Beast" Butler is in Baltimore
MAY 12, 1861:

Benjamin Franklin Butler (later to be known as “Beast Butler”) takes control of
Federal Hill and threatens to fire on downtown Baltimore if Southern
sympathizers protest. He becomes extremely unpopular---North and South.
