JUNE 24, 1862:
U.S. President Abraham Lincoln travels
to West Point, New York, to meet with General Winfield Scott, retired commander
of all Union forces at the outbreak of the Civil War. Lincoln, tired of the
stalemate outside of Richmond, expressed doubts about George B. McClellan's
ability to lead the Army of the Potomac. Scott echoed those doubts.
