JULY 18, 1862:
The Battle of Cynthiana, Kentucky.
John
Hunt Morgan’s Rebel riders raided the town of Cynthiana in northern Kentucky,
which was defended by one brass cannon and 340 Yankee troops. Fighting in the
streets of the town see-sawed bloodily for a while, until the surviving Union
troops retreated.
The Rebels scooped up a large number of prisoners. The Rebels lost about 40 men killed and wounded, while the Yankees lost over 70
shot, in addition to the prisoners.
