JULY 13, 1862:

Nathan Bedford Forrest’s cavalry captures the Union garrison at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Murfreesboro was an important Union supply depot. By late afternoon, all of the Union units in the city had surrendered to Forrest’s force. The Confederates, numbering 1,400 destroyed the Union supplies and tore up railroad track in the area, as well as taking almost 1,000 prisoners.
