JUNE 15, 1862:
Jeb
Stuart reports to General Robert E. Lee on his daring ride around the Union
army. Having gathered much intelligence on Union positions and conditions,
Stuart decided it would be safer to ride on and around McClellan’s army, rather
than returning to the countryside where his passage had already aroused Union
ire. Stuart’s famous ride not only gathers vital information, it also boosts
Southern morale, and makes Stuart and his men heroes throughout the Confederacy.
