JUNE 23, 1862:
Robert
E. Lee holds a meeting of all his senior generals at his headquarters at Dabb’s
House just north of Richmond. It is decided that McClellan is too close to
Richmond; and although the Union general has shown no propensity to attack the
city, a sudden move could spell disaster for the capital of the Confederacy.
The consensus: Attack McClellan.
