The
Siege of Suffolk, Virginia (April 11-May 4, 1863):
Troops under General James
Longstreet invest the Union garrison at Suffolk, Virginia, intending to tie
down the troops in order to give Robert E. Lee a free hand to operate in the
area. The siege was lifted when Longstreet’s Command was ordered to
Chancellorsville.
