APRIL 10, 1863:
The First
Battle of Franklin, Tennessee.
The Federals hold Franklin, Tennessee.
Confederate forces blunder into Union forces, skirmish, and then withdraw.
Hearing that another Confederate force has attacked Brentwood, Tennessee, the
Union troops rush to the town. When this turns out to be disinformation, the
Federals renew their attack near Franklin. Although the Union forces are beaten
back, the Confederates break off the attack and retreat, leaving the Federals
still in control of Franklin.
