AUGUST 9, 1861:
The
schooner GEORGE G. BAKER is taken as a prize by the Confederate privateer C.S.S.
YORK off Cape Hatteras. The Federal vessel U.S.S. UNION drives off the YORK and
claims the BAKER for herself. The crew of the BAKER scuttled the ship, denying
her to either side. There is no record of the BAKER’s flag.
