August 31, 1861---Convoy cruises to crush Confederates
AUGUST 31, 1861:
General Fremont
departs St. Louis by river with 8000 troops. His destination is Bird’s Point.
His intention is to crush Confederate resistance downriver. Today’s expedition
will result in the Battle of Charleston, Missouri.
