1776-1820---Debating The Articles of Confederation And Perpetual Union



JULY 12, 1776:   

The United States Continental Congress begins debating the draft document of the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union. Slavery is never referenced in the Articles of Confederation. Secession is specifically disallowed as the Union is to be "Perpetual" by its own terms.
