Early 1861---Sumter looks to the "Star of The West."

MARCH 29, 1861:       

After further indirect consultations with Major Anderson and with Confederate leaders in Charleston, President Lincoln authorizes relief expeditions for several Federal forts, including Fort Sumter, to be prepared to depart by April 6^th.

The U.S.S. STAR OF THE WEST is ordered to aid Fort Sumter.
