JANUARY 5, 1862:
The Battle of Bath (Virginia; now Berkeley Springs, West
Virginia). Ignoring his commander, General Loring’s orders, Stonewall Jackson
moves his famed Stonewall Brigade to attack the western Virginia town of Bath.
His objective is to cut the B & O Railroad. After occupying Bath, part of
Jackson’s force assails Hancock, Maryland across the Potomac.
