NOVEMBER 9, 1862:
General
Burnside submits a plan to attack the Confederate forces in and around Fredericksburg,
Virginia.
Without waiting for an OK, he orders the Army of The Potomac to begin
moving. It is a bad omen that a major nor’easter strikes the eastern seaboard,
socking in everyplace from Maine to Virginia. Burnside’s army begins to march
into the teeth of the storm, getting bogged down almost immediately, and
returns to camp.
