May 19, 1862---Varina Davis gets a letter
MAY 19, 1862:
Confederate President Jefferson Davis expresses his anxiety
over the Union’s nearness to Richmond in a letter to his wife, Varina. “We are uncertain of everything except that
a battle must be close at hand.”
