DECEMBER 14, 1862:
The
Battle of Fredericksburg (Day Four).
The
Union and Confederate troops remain facing each other at Fredericksburg but do
not fight. In the afternoon, Burnside asks for a truce so he may recover his
wounded. Lee graciously grants it, and the Union Army is soon engrossed in
aiding its wounded and burying its dead.
