troops garrison Austin, Texas, the Blood-Stained Banner comes down over the
Lone Star State. The last remaining
State capital of the Confederacy capitulates.
Judah
P. Benjamin arrives in Havana, Cuba after an exodus that carries him from
Richmond, Virginia to Sarasota, Florida to New Providence in the Bahamas, and
onward. In late August he will reach London, there to take silk as Queen’s
Counsel.
