SEPTEMBER 14, 1864:
In
Richmond, the Confederate Office of The Quartermaster puts out a call for “ten
negro teamsters for the balance of the year.”
Not very far away at all, just outside Petersburg, Daniel
Timmons of the 80th Indiana Infantry is provided with a train ticket
home for $2.22; this requisition is approved by the Chief Quartermaster’s
Office of the United States.
