SEPTEMBER 13, 1864:
As Grant
slowly chokes off Richmond and Petersburg and Sherman prepares to do what he
feels he must in Atlanta, Philip Sheridan moves against Jubal Early in the
Shenandoah Valley. Today they clash at Abraham’s Creek, near Winchester,
Virginia. It is a small skirmish, but Sheridan is studying his opponent and is
becoming familiar with Early’s strengths and weaknesses.
