FEBRUARY 12, 1864:
The
Confederacy is so desperately short of raw materials that it is forced to order
cloth for gunpowder bags from France. Today the order goes out for 22,000 yards
of cloth, to be sent in 22 separate shipments, ensuring that at least some of
the cloth will make it through the Union blockade.
