June 3, 1865---"You need not look for me before you see me."

JUNE 3, 1865:

Leander Harris writes to his wife regarding his mustering-out from the U.S. Army:

Dear Emmy,

You will no doubt be surprised at receiving this, if you received my last, for you will have been expecting me for some time . . . I would not have written as I did, but . . . I cannot tell now when I shall be likely to get started. The reason, as near as I can learn, is that we are waiting for a Pay Master to pay us off, before we start . . . So you need not look for me till you see me.

In regard,

Leander
