FEBRUARY 7, 1865:
The Battle of Hatcher’s
Run:
The Union noose around the neck of Petersburg grows tighter as on this
day, and after three days of desultory skirmishing, Union forces manage to cut
the Vaughn Road approach to Petersburg. Although the Union is unable to seize
the main objective of the battle, the Boydton Plank Road, the cutting of the
Vaughn Road leaves the Boydton Plank Road as the only open route into the
besieged city.
