September 6, 1863---Battery Wagner falls; Sumter crumbles
SEPTEMBER 6, 1863:
Battery
Wagner is evacuated by the Confederates and the United States retakes Morris
Island in Charleston Harbor. Fort Sumter begins crumbling under the constant
Union bombardment.
