November 6, 1862---The election of Jefferson Davis



NOVEMBER 6, 1861:         

 Jefferson Davis, until now the Provisional President of the Confederacy, wins the general election. He will begin his Constitutional six year term on February 22, 1862.


November 5, 1861---Robert E. Lee goes South



NOVEMBER 5, 1861:        

 General Robert E. Lee is named commander of the Confederacy’s new Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and East Florida.


November 4, 1861---The Valley Campaign begins



NOVEMBER 4, 1861:          

General Thomas (now “Stonewall”) Jackson assumes Confederate command of all forces in the Shenandoah Valley, and begins planning his famed Valley Campaign. 


November 3, 1861---Confederates in exile



NOVEMBER 3, 1861: 

The Confederate Government at Neosho, Missouri flees first to Cassville, then into Arkansas, and then to Marshall, Texas and declares itself “in exile.”


November 2, 1861---The Path having been found, now comes the Hunter



NOVEMBER 2, 1861:        

 John C. Fremont is officially replaced by David Hunter as General of the Western Department.


November 1, 1861---Little Mac's here to save the day!



NOVEMBER 1, 1861: 


George B. McClellan officially replaces Winfield Scott as General-in-Chief of all U.S. armies.
