January 6, 1862---The Battle of Hancock, Maryland

JANUARY 6, 1862:            

 The Battle of Hancock, Maryland. The Stonewall Brigade bombards Hancock, Maryland from across the Potomac. No damage is done to the Union garrison, which returns shot in answer. Unable to cross the river at Hancock, Jackson and his men eventually break off, moving toward Romney, Virginia (now West Virginia).
