January 4, 1862---Old Blizzards

JANUARY 4, 1862:

General William W. Loring C.S.A., on the march with Stonewall Jackson, calls a halt for men under his command. Loring’s men are suffering from winter weather exposure and a lack of supplies and provisions. Loring’s reluctance to move under adverse conditions gains him the nickname “Old Blizzards.”
