May 3, 1864---Marching Orders



MAY 3, 1864:     

The Camden Expedition of the Red River Campaign ends with the Union army’s ignominious return to Little Rock, Arkansas. The Union had achieved none of its objectives during the Camden Expedition. 

Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant issues marching orders to The Army of The Potomac: Cross the Rapidan River and engage The Army of Northern Virginia.
