DECEMBER 28, 1861:
The Chicago Tribune, a “Copperhead”
publication, reports that Black “apprentices” are to be brought into Missouri
to grow cotton. Objections from anti-Black and Abolitionist sources soon bring
this proposal to an ignominious end.
