December 17, 1861---The Battle of Rowlett's Station, Kentucky

DECEMBER 17, 1861:

The Battle of Rowlett’s Station, Kentucky: After completing a bridge over the Green River, Union engineers and troops are attacked by a Confederate force tasked to destroy the bridge. Though both sides claimed victory, the Federals held the bridge. The battle is remarkable in that troops advanced in the classic “Napoleonic Square” pattern.
