November 20, 1862---Border States see great growth in Union sentiment

NOVEMBER 20, 1862:

Confederate troops trying to recruit in Kentucky are told, “We Kentuckians do not want to be hog-drivers!” The Confederates from outside the State are bewildered at the strong Unionist sentiment shown in a place they were told was being held in the Union by force. Again, as in Maryland, the Confederacy badly misjudges the attitude of the population of the Border States.
