July 9. 1861---A Confederate leader whose name will go down in history



JULY 9, 1861:    

Daniel Smith Donelson, a nephew of President Andrew Jackson, for whom Fort Donelson is named, becomes a Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. His family background and his Tennessee pedigree as Speaker of the Tennessee House make him an influential leader.
