July 25, 1861---To Preserve The Union



JULY 25, 1861:    

Congress passes the Crittenden-Johnson Resolution today in a 30-5 vote. The resolution, named after Congressional representative John J. Crittenden of Kentucky and Senator Andrew Johnson of Tennessee, declares the North's intention of the war to be to reunite the country, and not to end slavery.
