July 11, 1861---The Battle of Rich Mountain/The Battle of Laurel Hill



JULY 11, 1861:  

The Battle of Rich Mountain takes place in Randolph County Virginia (now West Virginia). After a two hour engagement, Confederate forces are split in two, and retreat in disorder. The Rebels suffer 300 casualties, the Yankees 50. 

The Battle of Laurel Hill is fought simultaneously in the same area and the Confederates are likewise defeated.
